A more than capable understudy to Paul Jones between the sticks for Southampton, Neil made three early season appearances and was unlucky to lose the first-team spot after performing admirably.
After being released by Southampton, Neil rejoined AFC Bournemouth in February 2003 with a contract up to June 2006.
His Cherries contract was extended to June 2008 in May 2007 and to June 2009 in September 2007.
He retired in July 2008 due to a wrist injury.
