MacKenzie began the 2000-01 campaign with Cambridge United where he made a number of appearances before being released in November following an off-the-field incident.

He subsequently moved on to Third Division new boys Kidderminster Harriers where he soon settled in to the team.

A talented central midfield player with a great range of passing, he is always willing to look for a shot at goal.

He netted several spectacular goals for the Harriers, notably with a direct free kick at Halifax Town in January and with a cracking 35-yarder in the 2-1 win over Barnet the following month.

MacKenzie's stint at Blackpool ended with a year of his contract to run with a free transfer to Mansfield Town.

He signed a further one-year deal with the Stags in June 2004.

MacKenzie was made available for transfer by Macclesfield Town in October 2005.

After a loan spell, he joined Scunthorpe United in January 2006 with a contract to the end of the season that was extended to June 2007 in May 2006.

MacKenzie joined Notts County in July 2007 with a two-year contract.
