With Aston Villa, League Cup winner 1994

Neil became increasingly influential at right back for Watford in 2000-01 as he became accustomed to the club's style of play during his second season at Vicarage Road.

Strong going forward and a dead-ball specialist, he had the distinction of scoring the Hornets' first goal of the season with an astute free kick at Huddersfield Town and netted several more times including a brace in the 3-1 win over Queens Park Rangers in October.

Like the rest of the defence, he wobbled a bit in mid-season but came back strongly towards the end of the campaign.

He was placed on the transfer list by new boss Gianluca Vialli in the 2001 summer.

Neil's fortunes improved with the Hornets to such an extent that, in May 2003, he agreed a new two-year deal.

His contract was extended to June 2006 in August 2004.

Neil joined Crewe Alexandra in July 2006 with a two-year contract.
