Stanton continued to shine for Scunthorpe United in 2000-01 whether at centre back or right back and his pace and strength made him one of the Third Division's best defenders.
Highly-rated he was always a first choice at Glanford Park and captained the side in Steve Torpey's absence even though he is still a teenager.
Stanton picked up a knee ligament injury in February, which sidelined him for four weeks, but he quickly recovered and was back in the team by the end of the 2000-01 campaign.
Stanton signed a new two-year contract with Scunthorpe United in July 2003 that was extended to June 2006 in July 2005.
He joined Rochdale in July 2006 with a one-year contract that was extended to June 2008 in January 2007 and to June 2010 in January 2008.
Stanton joined Burton Albion in July 2010 with a two-year contract that was extended to June 2013 in May 2012.
