Has appeared between the sticks on over 500 occasions at club level. After enjoying a testimonial match against Aston Villa during the close season Mike spent virtually the whole of the 2001-02 campaign in the Wolves reserve team. Unable to displace Michael Oakes in goal he was restricted to a couple of outings in the cup competitions before coming off the subs' bench on the final day of the season for an emotional farewell. A vastly experienced 'keeper he was released by the club at the end of the season and joined Bristol City. He began his League career with Preston North End, who he joined from Leyland Motors.
Mike agreed a new two-year contract with Bristol City in July 2003 in a deal that also involved him in goalkeeping coaching duties.
