Quinn immediately proved the doubters wrong when he joined the illustrious list of Newcastle No. 9s with a four-goal salvo on his Newcastle debut against Leeds United. He went on to score 34 goals in the 1989-90 campaign as the Magpies only missed out on promotion to the First Division in the Play-Offs. A natural scorer, he netted almost 300 goals in his career before going on to become a racehorse trainer.
