Walsh was in excellent form for Port Vale in 2000-01, coming in to the line-up for the local 'derby' against Stoke City in September and retaining his place for the remainder of the campaign.

He seemed to play better as the season progressed and was a key figure in both the club's 16-match unbeaten run and their victory in the LDV Vans Trophy Final against Brentford.

Walsh is a tall, solid defender who is strong in the tackle and possesses a powerful long throw.

Walsh's contract at Port Vale was extended to June 2007 in May 2006.
