Hyde missed the opening games of 2000-01 through suspension, but made a scoring return against Sheffield United and seemed set to carry on the impressive form he had shown in 1999-2000.
His shooting in particular seemed improved and he was briefly leading scorer after netting doubles against Blackburn Rovers and Nottingham Forest, and a memorable goal at home to Crewe Alexandra.
However, he then suffered a recurrence of a knee injury that caused a dip in his form at the turn of the year, and an attack of chicken pox was a source of further frustration.
Hyde received an end-of-season boost when he was called up for Jamaica, making his debut from the subs bench in the World Cup qualifier against Honduras in April and retaining his place in the squad for the next few games.
A combative central midfield player, he made over 250 league appearances for the Hornets.
Hyde joined Burnley in July 2004 with a three-year contract but was made available for transfer in May 2006.
He joined Peterborough United in January 2007 with a contract to June 2009 but was made available for transfer in November 2008 before it was cancelled a month later.
Hyde joined Barnet in July 2009 with a one-year contract.
