Full name is: Mehdi François Carcela-González.
Born to a Moroccan mother and a Spanish father, Medhi Carcela originally chose to represent his country of birth.
He played for Belgium in two international friendlies before, in December 2010, he changed his mind and decided to represent Morocco.
Medhi made his debut for Morocco against Niger on 9 February 2011.
