He began his career at Olimpija Ljubljana before moving to Maribor for the 1998-1999 season. He won domestic league titles with Maribor in 1998-99 and 2000-01 and his excellent performances earned him an international debut in October 1999 against Greece. He moved to Shaktar Donetsk in the 2001 close season, but within six months he was back on loan at his former club. Since then he has had trials at a number of clubs including West Ham United and Bolton Wanderers of the English Premiership in a bid to secure a permanent transfer. He is a tall commanding central defender and has recovered from hepatitis in time for the finals. He is an excellent tackler with exceptional defensive abilities and rarely wanders out of his own half. He may only play from the bench.
