As a talented youngster, Matt Sparrow made a couple of early season appearances at right-back for Scunthorpe United in 2000-01 but failed to make much impression and he did not re-appear in the first team until March.
A switch into centre midfield seemed to offer him the chance to show off his skills, determination and eye for goal as he cracked in three in two games to relaunch Scunthorpe's season.
Sadly, though he picked up an ankle injury after netting the winner against Brighton & Hove Albion which ruled him out for a few weeks but he returned to the squad for the final matches.
Matt signed a professional contract with the Iron in the spring of 2001.
Matt's contract with Scunthorpe United was extended to June 2008 in May 2006 then to June 2010 in August 2007.
He joined Brighton & Hove Albion in July 2010 with a three-year contract.
Matt joined Crawley Town in January 2013 with a contract to June 2013.
He re-joined Scunthorpe United in July 2013 with a two-year contract.
