Matt Le Tissier

Le Tissier had yet another nightmare time with injuries at Southampton in 2000-01.

After enjoying a brief run in the line-up at the beginning of the season, he was sidelined by a series of calf and knee problems and it was not until shortly before the end of the campaign that he recovered anything like match fitness.

However, he made the starting line-up for the last game of the season against Arsenal, which was the final Premiership match to be played on The Dell and, with a sense of the grand occasion, he netted a spectacular late winner with a left-foot shot on the turn from the edge of the penalty area.

An immensely creative talent in midfield and a great goal-scorer - he needed 14 more to overhaul Mike Channon's club record of 185 league goals - he was reported to have signed a new two-year deal for the Saints at the end of the season.

After another injury ravaged season in 2001-02, Le Tissier decided to retire from playing and took up a coaching job at the Saints as well as pursuing a media career.
