After making his debut in 1999-2000, Matt became a regular in Bristol City's back four in 2000-01.
A versatile defender who can play either at left back or centre half, he impressed with his tigerish tackling and speedy recovery.
One of several promising graduates from City's youth set-up, he was voted 'Young Player of the Year' by the club's Junior Strikers section.
Matthew's contract at Bristol City was extended to June 2006 in July 2004 but he joined Preston North End in January 2005 with a contract to June 2008 that was extended to June 2010 in July 2007.
He joined Wolverhampton Wanderers in September 2008 with a three-year contract that was cancelled in January 2011.
After a loan spell, Matt joined Barnsley in January 2011 with a contract to June 2011.
He joined Blackpool in July 2011 with a one-year contract.
After a loan spell, Matt joined Sheffield United in July 2012 with a two-year contract.
He joined Tranmere Rovers in August 2014 on non-contract terms before agreeing a deal until June 2015.
