Although he was unable to break into a strong Burnley squad in 2000-01, Matt captained the reserve team before moving on to Swindon Town in January where he helped to shore up a defence that had leaked goals during the first half of the season.
He went on to produce some inspired performances and also weighed in with a couple of goals including an important winner at Brentford which helped to ease the club's relegation fears.
He is a powerful no-nonsense central defender who tackles well and distributes the ball sensibly.
Matt was awarded a new two-year contract by Swindon Town in May 2003.
He joined Bristol City in July 2005 with a three-year contract.
Matt joined Grimsby Town in July 2008 with a two-year contract before he was made available for transfer in January 2010 before his contract was cancelled shortly afterwards.
