The Bolton Wanderers goalkeeper had a short loan spell at Bristol Rovers early in the 2000-01 campaign where he made a single appearance deputising for the injured Nick Culkin.

Matty produced a superb 'Man of the Match' display against Wigan Athletic keeping a clean sheet in a goalless draw.

In November, he moved on to Carlisle United, also on loan and quickly became a favourite of the Brunton Park faithful with some confident displays, his ability to command the area proving an inspiration to the defenders in front of him.

He produced an excellent penalty save at York City but he saved his best performance for the FA Cup tie against Arsenal when he made some magnificent saves to restrict the Gunners to a single goal.

Matty deservedly received the Cumbrians' 'Player of the Year' award at the end of the campaign.

After a spell at Hull City, Matt made the permanent move to Carlisle United in October 2002 on a three-year contract.

Matt joined Huddersfield Town in July 2006 with a two-year contract that was extended to June 2010 in May 2008.

He joined Bradford City in January 2010 with a contract to June 2010.
