Gill missed the start of the 2000-01 campaign while recovering from a close-season hernia operation and it was not until October that he returned to action with Peterborough United.
He was switched from a midfield role to full back on his return but then suffered a bad knee injury against Brentford at the beginning of March and was sidelined until the summer break.
A product of Posh's successful youth system, his capacity for hard work rather belies his somewhat frail stature.
Gill's Peterborough contract was extended to June 2005 in December 2003 but it was subsequently cancelled by mutual consent in May 2004.
Gill was made available for transfer by Notts County in December 2005.
He joined Norwich City in July 2009 with a two-year contract.
Gill joined Bristol Rovers in July 2011 with a three-year contract.
He joined Tranmere Rovers in July 2014 in a player / coach capacity with a one-year contract that was cancelled in November 2014.
