Matt Carragher had a fine season for Port Vale in 2000-01 when he was a near ever-present and captained the team that defeated Brentford to win the LDV Vans Trophy Final at Cardiff's Millenium Stadium.
Having previously mostly appeared at right-back, he spent much of the campaign as a sweeper, a role he adapted to with ease.
He helped make the Vale defence one of the tightest in the division, often flying in with last-ditch tackles to save the situation.
Matt joined Macclesfield Town in November 2003 on a three-month contract that was extended to June 2005 in February 2004.
