Carbon had a rather disappointing campaign for West Bromwich Albion in 2000-01 when he was in and out of the first team, often being sidelined by niggling injuries.
He played his best football alongside Tony Butler at the heart of the Baggies' defence between November and late January but thereafter struggled to hold down a first team slot and lost his place altogether when Phil Gilchrist arrived towards the end of March.
An effective central defender who is strong in the air, he signed for Walsall after he was released by the Baggies' at the end of June 2001.
Carbon decided he needed a break from full-time football in July 2003, and had his Walsall contract cancelled by mutual consent. However, after three months away from the club, Carbon's contract was re-instated.
