The real veteran of the team he plays his football for Jubilo Iwata where he made his debut in March 1994. He is an excellent forward with an eye for goal but is criticized for giving the ball away too cheaply. He has scored over 100 J-League goals and was the nations first goalscorer at a World Cup Finals in 1998. He has been used as a 'super sub' by coach Phillippe Troussier for almost every recent game and should play the same role here.
