As a Derby County youngster, Marvin joined Stoke City on loan in September 2000 to gain more experience of first-team football.
He endeared himself to the club's supporters by scoring on his debut against Oxford United but then suffered a badly broken leg in his third game for City and this brought his season to a premature close.
Marvin joined Chesterfield on a short-term contract in September 2003 then Notts County in September 2004 on a monthly basis before moving on to Rushden & Diamonds on non-contract terms.
He soon secured a deal with Walsall to the end of the 2004-05 season.
Marvin joined Lincoln City in August 2005 with a five-month contract.
