Huddersfield Town's reserve goalkeeper eventually got his chance at the MacAlpine Stadium in 2000-01 some two years after his previous senior appearance. Having set a near record of appearances as an unused substitute he finally stepped off the bench when Nico Vaesen was sent off at Blackburn and then covered for the whole of the following game at Wimbledon when Vaesen was suspended. However Martyn never let the side down, handling the ball well and making some good saves from both close-and long-range efforts.
Having failed to agree a new contract, Martyn decided to leave Huddersfield in July 2002 and joined Cardiff City in a two-year deal that was extended to June 2006 in July 2004.
