Smith got off to a good start to the 2000-01 campaign at Huddersfield Town netting two goals in an early season win at Sheffield Wednesday.
He continued to get among the goals and also netted against his old club Sheffield United.
Unfortunately, he also suffered a knee injury in the same match and he was sidelined for the remainder of the campaign.
A very skilful player, he can play either as a left-sided striker or in an attacking midfield role.
