Rowlands began the 2000-01 campaign playing on the right-hand side of midfield for Brentford.
However, he switched to a position in the 'hole' behind the front two strikers under Ray Lewington and finished the season appearing alongside Paul Evans in a central midfield role.
Although he missed a number of games through suspension, he added a creative dimension to the centre of the park with his excellent dribbling and passing skills.
He won a runners-up medal in the LDV Vans Trophy after appearing for the Bees in their 2-1 defeat by Port Vale in the final of the competition.
Rowlands joined Queens Park Rangers in July 2003 in a two-year deal that was extended to June 2009 in September 2006.
He joined Colchester United in January 2012 with a contract to June 2012.
Rowlands joined Leyton Orient in August 2012 with a monthly contract that was extended to January 2013 in September 2012 and then to June 2013.
