Robertson enjoyed a successful loan spell in Australia during the summer of 2000, coming off the bench to help his club Wollongong Wolves overturn a 3-0 deficit to win the NSL Grand Final in a dramatic penalty shoot-out. On his return to England he linked up with Second Division club Swindon Town where he mostly featured from the bench, scoring his only goal from the penalty spot in the home defeat by Bristol Rovers before he returned to Burnley. He subsequently moved on to Dundee in March where he featured in a handful of games towards the end of the season. Mostly used as a right-sided attacking midfielder, he also occasionally played up front for the Robins.

With his contract at Dundee cancelled when the SPL club went into administration, Robertson joined Stockport County in January 2004 in a deal to the end of the 2003-04 season. It was subsequently extended to June 2006.
