Ovendale joined Luton Town in the 2000 close season and, although he began the 2000-01 season on the subs' bench, he quickly won a place in the first team at Kenilworth Road, subsequently competing with his rival Nathan Abbey for the goalkeeper's jersey throughout the season.
An excellent 'keeper he commands his area well, is a fine shot stopper and plucks crosses and corners out of the air with ease.
After a brief stint at Barry Town, Ovendale joined York City in August 2003 with a one-year contract.
