Goodlad had an excellent first season as Port Vale's regular goalkeeper, rarely being absent and finishing the campaign as a joint-winner of the club's 'Young Player of the Year' award.

A fine shot stopper and excellent at handling crosses, a high point of his campaign was appearing in the Vale team that defeated Brentford to win the LDV Vans Trophy at Cardiff's Millenium Stadium.

Goodlad's contract at Port Vale was extended to June 2008 in May 2006 before he announced his retirement due to injury in January 2008.
