After suffering a frustrating time with injury problems in 1999-2000, Marcus was pleased to start 2000-01 as first-choice left back for Coventry City.
His knee appeared to have healed but it gave way after the game at Charlton Athletic in September and further surgery was required.
After convalescence, it was January before he returned to the team and he had a storming game in the FA Cup tie at Manchester City.
In April, he reached the milestone of 100 Premiership appearances but his performances towards the end of the campaign were a little inconsistent as the Sky Blues struggled unsuccessfully to avoid relegation.
Marcus signed a new two-year contract with Stoke City in June 2003.
He returned to Coventry City in February 2005 with a contract to June 2007.
His Sky Blues contract was extended to June 2010 in June 2009.
Marcus joined Northampton Town in August 2010 with a one-year contract.
