Bent began the 2000-01 season on top form for Sheffield United, scoring a Worthington Cup hat-trick against Lincoln City and netting twice in the First Division game against Tranmere Rovers.

However, the goals then dried up and despite some effective approach play, he struggled to find the net.

In November 2000, he was sold to Blackburn Rovers where he featured regularly, netting a stunning equaliser at Norwich City on New Year's Day.

A deceptively fast striker, he is very good in the air, adept at finding space in the box and able to create opportunities for others with his running.

Bent joined Leicester City in September 2003 on a season's loan.

He moved on to Everton in June 2004 on a three-year contract.

Bent joined Charlton Athletic in January 2006 with a contract to June 2009.

He joined Birmingham City in July 2008 with a three-year contract.
