This talented young striker was a member of the Sporting Lisbon team who were national champions at U16 level in 1998-99 and after progressing to the club's B team in the Portuguese Second Division he joined Bristol City on loan in March 2001. He scored twice for the reserves at Barnet and was promoted to the subs' bench for the first team, making a sensational debut at Bury when he came on to score the winner. Having been capped earlier in the season for the U18s, he stepped up to represent Portugal at U20 level in the prestigious Toulon Tournament during the 2001 summer. He returned to England in July 2002 for a season long loan at Oldham Athletic although it was duly cut short in December 2002.
