Owusu had the misfortune to suffer a dislocated shoulder playing for Brentford in a Worthington Cup tie at Bristol City at the start of 2000-01 that kept him out of action for two months.
After recovering fitness, he was nursed back into the team appearing primarily as a substitute until he reclaimed his place up front with Scott Partridge in January.
It was not until the second half of the campaign that the goals began to flow again and he finished the season by winning a runners-up medal in the LDV Vans Trophy final when the Bees were defeated by Port Vale.
A very effective striker who is strong and fast with an eye for goal, Owusu joined Brentford in July 2005 with a contract to June 2007.
He joined Cheltenham Town in September 2008 with a one-year contract.
