A powerful and consistent centre back and accomplished defender in the lower divisions, Linvoy settled into First Division football very quickly at Portsmouth in 2000-01 after signing under the Bosman ruling.
A clean tackler, with good pace, he is strong on the ball, dominant in the air and not afraid to go forward when the opportunity arises.
His confidence and experience helped strengthen the Pompey defence before he was sidelined by a thigh problem at the end of November, then by a groin injury, and it was not until the last few games that he returned to the side.
He was sidelined for the start of the 2001-02 season with a tendonitis problem but returned to first team action in October.
His season was interrupted by hamstring problems which restricted his appearances.
Linvoy's contract at Portsmouth was extended to June 2006 in April 2004, then to June 2008 in May 2006 and to June 2009 in May 2005 then to June 2010 in July 2009.
Linvoy retired in December 2009 due to a knee injury.
