Having been capped by England at Under-16 and Under-18 levels this promising Manchester City youngster joined Oxford United on loan in September 2000 to gain some experience of first- team football. Leon made three appearances for the Us before a change of management at the Manor Ground prevented any extension of the spell and he returned to Maine Road. He subsequently went out on loan again in the New Year, this time to Third Division Halifax Town, but although he regularly found space in the box he failed to register a goal for the Shaymen in seven appearances before returning to Maine Road again.
