Having appeared twice for Bradford City in the pre-season Inter Toto Cup matches, Lee moved on to Rochdale shortly before the start of the 2000-01 campaign and soon showed his class, proving to be a terrific signing by Steve Parkin. Superb throughout the campaign his full-back partnership with Wayne Evans helped Dale maintain one of the one of the best defensive records in the Football League. Lee's three goals all came from free kicks on the edge of the box and his last gasp equaliser against Brighton was a strong contender for Dale's goal of the season.
