Nogan scored for Darlington on the opening day of the 2000-01 season in the 1-1 draw at Rochdale but after contributing four goals in nineteen games for the Quakers he moved on to Luton in November. Just three weeks later he scored one of the goals that helped the Hatters to an FA Cup second round victory over his old colleagues. However he stayed only a short time at Kenilworth Road and was soon back up north joining York City where he became a key figure in the club's campaign to retain their Football League status. He led the attack in fine style with his ability to hold the ball up transforming the Minstermen's attack while his tireless work made him a firm favourite with the club's supporters. Nogan also weighed in with six goals notching the winners against Southend and Halifax and an outstanding strike in the 1-1 draw at Leyton Orient. He is the brother of Kurt Nogan who began his career at Kenilworth Road.

Nogan was appointed player / assistant manager of York City in June 2003.
