McEvilly confirmed his meteoric rise when he became the first full international in Rochdale's history.
He came on after 63 minutes of Northern Ireland's friendly with Spain in Belfast on 17 April 2002 to win his first cap only four months after entering the Football League ranks.
Ironically, McEvilly's Dale colleague Patrick McCourt followed him on to the Windsor Park pitch just 14 minutes later.
McEvilly's contract at Wrexham was extended to June 2008 in June 2006 but was made available for transfer in July 2007.
After a loan spell, he rejoined Rochdale in January 2009 with a contract to June 2010 but was made available for transfer in May 2009 before it was cancelled shortly afterwards.
