Welsh international Lee Jones had few opportunities at Anfield. He later played for Tranmere and Barnsley.
Signed from Tranmere during the close season, Lee made a bright start to the 2000-01 campaign at Barnsley, scoring the winner against Norwich City on the opening day and following this up with a double in the next home game against West Bromwich Albion.
Managerial changes at Oakwell meant that he appeared in a variety of positions during the season but he looked more comfortable when used as a striker where his speed off the mark always made him a handful for opposition defenders.
He missed several matches due to injuries and his longest run in the team came when Nigel Spackman took over as manager and played him on the left-hand side of midfield.
However, a bout tendonitis caused his season to end prematurely in the New Year.
