Collins was loaned to Cambridge United at the beginning of 2000-01 but failed to make it beyond the subs' bench at the Abbey Stadium.
However, he produced some fine performances for Stoke City reserves on his return to the Potteries and was called up to the first team for the FA Cup First Round replay against Nuneaton Borough.
He subsequently continued his development in the second string before going out on loan to Dr Martens League club Moor Green in the closing stages of the campaign.
A tall and commanding central defender, he joined Halesowen Town in the summer.
