Briscoe soon settled into an attacking left-back role in the Burnley side in 2000-01, filling a position that had been a problem for some time. Although he likes to go forward, his qualities were nevertheless best seen at the back and his experience of higher-grade football proved invaluable for the Clarets. Unfortunately he suffered a knee injury in the home win against Norwich which kept him out of action for three months and then had another spell out after straining a hamstring at Hillsborough towards the end of the 2000-01 campaign.
Briscoe joined Preston North End in July 2003 on a one-year contract.
