Lee was suspended (and at the same time injured) at the start of the 2000-2001 campaign and apart from a short spell in the Macclesfield line-up in November he had to wait until last February to regain his place as first-choice 'keeper for the Moss Rose club. He quickly re-established himself with some commanding performances and produced a wonderful last-minute penalty save at Cheltenham to keep the scores level. Lee is always cool, calm and collected even when under intense pressure and showed strength of character when out of the team, knuckling down in the reserves to win a recall. Placed on the transfer list in March 2002.
Lee studied at Salford University for a BSc (Hons) degree in Physiotherapy. He was appointed Huddersfield Town's physio and goalkeeping coach in June 2003.
