Laurent Charvet

Charvet appeared 11 times in the Premier League during 1998 on loan at Chelsea before being snapped up by Newcastle United for £750,000 on the 22nd July the same year.

Despite manager Ruud Gullit's liking for the rotation system, Charvet became a regular selection during his time at Newcastle including an appearance in the 1999 FA Cup Final against Manchester United.

Charvet started the 2000-01 season on the Newcastle bench, but stepped in to the side following Warren Barton's suspension and, after producing a 'Man of the Match' performance against Coventry City, he retained his place until he was sold to Manchester City at the end of October.

Brought in to fill the right-back position he had a baptism of fire at Highbury when the Blues lost 5-0 but went on to enjoy a short run in the team before being sidelined by an achilles injury.

He eventually returned to action at the end of February when he looked much more settled in the team.

An experienced and versatile defender, he is quick, sound in the air and very effective when pushing down the wing.
