Lightbourne joined Scarborough from Pembroke Hamilton, Bermuda. He has 35 caps for his country and has made about 350 club appearances in the UK. Lightbourne appeared regularly for Stoke City early on last season but found his opportunities limited by the arrival of Andy Cooke and Rikki Dadason. In an attempt to re-launch his career he joined Swindon Town on loan in January but after a lively debut he succumbed to a thigh injury in his second game and returned to the Britannia Stadium. He then spent the following month at Cardiff City as cover for injured strikers Gavin Gordon and Kevin Nugent but received few chances before returning to the Potteries where he played in a handful of games as the season came to a close. He is an experienced striker who works hard and possesses a good shot. Lightbourne is also a double international having represented Bermuda at both football and cricket. He was placed on the Macclesfield transfer list in February 2002.
