O'Leary displayed consistent form for Swansea City during the early part of 2000-01 when he was used in a central defensive role and he later featured at right back before being sidelined by a calf injury.
He returned for the penultimate game against Brentford when he scored in a 6-0 thrashing and also made the team for the last game at home to Cambridge United.
A strong tackler with good distribution, he can play either in defence or midfield if required.
O'Leary agreed a new one-year contract with Swansea City in June 2004 that was extended to June 2007 in June 2005, then to June 2008 in July 2007.
