Rapley found himself out of favour at Notts County at the beginning of 2000-01 and, after being restricted to outings from the subs' bench, he spent much of the remainder of the campaign away from Meadow Lane.
He spent two months on loan at Exeter City in the autumn as manager Noel Blake sought to boost his fire power, but failed to score in nine outings for the Devon club and subsequently joined Scunthorpe United, again on loan, in March.
He came off the substitutes' bench to make his debut for the Iron at half-time in the 4-1 win over Plymouth Argyle, showing an excellent touch, pace and movement up front.
However he then suffered a shin injury in training that put him on the sidelines for a few weeks.
A quick right-footed striker he makes effective darting runs and is capable of scoring spectacular goals.
