Dearden began 2000-01 on the bench for Wrexham and it was not until mid-September that he replaced Kristian Rogers in the Robins' goal. He then retained his position for the remainder of the campaign producing an excellent performance in the Boxing Day game against Port Vale at the Racecourse Ground. Although not particularly tall he is a fine shot stopper who is able to dominate his penalty area. Has made some 400 appearances between the sticks in his varied career.
Dearden signed a new one-year contract with Torquay United in June 2004.
