Having previously operated as a target man, Southampton boss Glenn Hoddle used him in a deeper right-sided midfield role where his speed was put to good effect.

Kevin's contract at Bolton Wanderers was extended to June 2007 in November 2004 then to June 2010 in January 2007, to June 2011 in August 2008, to June 2012 in August 2009 and to June 2013 in May 2012.
He joined Preston North End in July 2013 with a two-year contract.
