In July 2013, research by Robert Boyling and Mark Metcalf established that Kenny scored the first-ever goal in the Football League after two minutes of Bolton Wanderers' game against Derby County at Pikes Lane on 8 September 1888.
Their findings concluded that it would be impossible for any of the five other games on the opening day of the competition to have included a goal before his effort at 3.47pm.
Kenny - full name James Kenyon Davenport - also has the distinction of being the first Wanderers player to be capped by England and the first Boltonian to represent his country at full international level.
