Briggs made his debut for Stockport County in their Worthington Cup tie at Oldham Athletic whilst still a trainee. His assured performance was rewarded with a professional contract a few days later.
He was transfer listed by Hatters boss Carlton Palmer in December 2002 and subsequently joined Norwich City in a three-and-a-half year deal.
However, he was made available for transfer in August 2004 and returned to Stockport County in January 2005 on a non-contract basis.
Subsequently, a deal up to June 2006 was agreed.
Briggs joined Shrewsbury Town in January 2008 on non-contract terms.
He joined Mansfield Town in February 2008 with a contract to June 2008.
Briggs was made available for transfer by Fleetwood Town in July 2012.
