He is one of the stars in the J-League after he switched from the centre of defence to a holding role in midfield. He made his debut for his only club Shimizu S-Pulse in February 1995. He has over 100 appearances in the J-League and broke into the national team in the 2001 Confederations Cup and has been a regular member of the team since, forming an excellent partnership with Junichi Inamoto in the midfield. A hard tackling midfielder he rarely ventures forward as his handful of goals in the J-League confirm.
