At the age of 16 years and 309 days, Julien Verbrugghe became the youngest-ever player to appear for the France national team (versus an England amatuer XI at the Parc des Princes in Paris on 1 November 1906) - a record he retained into the 21st century.
He died in 1916 at Maurepas during the Battle of the Somme.
