Brain was on the books of Carlisle United from the age of 12 but decided to join Newcastle United as a trainee when he was sixteen.
He joined Carlisle United on a monthly contract in August 2002.
His contract at Macclesfield Town was extended to June 2010 in May 2008.
Johnny joined Walsall in July 2010 with a one-year contract.
